On February 11th, 2006 I wrote an email to my good friend Joey entitled "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DONKEY." It said, "What do you think? The first HORROR kayak movie..." Joey replied, "I like it, I like it. Its got potential to be completely ridiculous!" And so it is, two years later. Several times during the process I thought that I was gonna give up. I thought, this is too hard to do and it's gonna turn out stupid. It may very well have turned out stupid but it is my most prized work to date. Personally, I have a hard time watching a kayak movie more than once. I'm more into comedy, short films, independent films and such. Therefore, I try to incorporate some of the things that keep my attention into my kayak videos. Thus, Buck Fever, Enter the Donkey and now Night of the Living Donkey. The difference in Night of the Living Donkey compared to my past work is that this video actually uses the title as it's theme and continues it throughout the entire video. We actually have a made up story line, a theme if you will, intertwined into the kayaking. I don't think it's hard to figure out what that theme is.

Opinions are just like assholes, everybody has one, and my asshole says that this video is going to make you laugh and hopefully make you want to go kayaking. That's the point as far as I'm concerned. I want to thank everyone who was involved with this video - the cast, the people behind the cameras, the families and friends. Enjoy this one.

Sincerely,

Spencer Cooke, Effort Inc

Joey is gone on a paddling trip right now so I'm gonna write this for him. Joey and I think alike. That's why I like him. Some people even think we sound alike. Well, I like him for a lot of other reasons but he and I do share many visions when it comes to kayaking and life. No, we're not life partners! Stop thinking that way you perv! Anyway, aside from being the wind beneath my wings, Jho, or Joweezee as I call him, is bar none the best graphic designer in the sport of kayaking and possibly the sport of graphic design. All the cool renderings of the cast members, the box cover, the disc face, all the graphics on the web site, my business card and more are designed by Jho. His portfolio is thick with some of the coolest stuff that has been done in the kayaking world. Joey also handled a portion of the filming, scripting and direction for the movie. He is one talented guy. By the way, Joey is working on his very own feature length film. It should be out in late 2008, entitled "Interference." It is entirely about surf kayaking and covers several of the best paddlers and beautiful locations in the world. Additionally this year he is launching the first of its kind, a surf kayak publication, also called Interference. Check the web site for both the film and the mag at interferencefilm.com
